3D Modeling: Exercise 2
Exercise 2: Non-destructive Modeling
This week we are practising non-destructive modelling by creating low poly animals in blender. The animal I choose to construct is a tiger. In this exercise, I was able to explore the extrude region by using the edit mode shortcut key 'E' and the mirror modifier in many axes. First, I uploaded a tiger reference image and used a mesh plane to draw the tiger's body based on the reference image. After covering the tiger body with mesh planes, I extrude plane faces by dragging them backward, resulting in a rectangle frame. Then I used a mirror modifier on the x axis to join two rectangular frames together, creating the body of a low poly tiger. I extrude faces under the tiger body for the leg session, then scale and rotate the faces to shape the tiger's tail and leg. Following that, the head part required the use of extrude and loop cut, which took me the longest to build. With a loop cut, the tiger's mouth is sized to fit. Finally, everything comes down to colour and materials. I was able to become adept in the use of extrude and scale as a result of this exercise, which has served me well when modelling any shape.
Output: Low-poly tiger
